"Never answer the
door at night". This was one of the directions
I was familiar with for quite some time. Still I opened the door, for
a couple of reasons. I was at my house and it was early morning. And
it wasn’t a door bell nor a knock at the door. A sort of dreary,
tired meow instead.
Yes, it was a kitten.
It was drizzling
outside and the kitten seemed wet, muddy and ugly. Normally cats run
away from strangers. But when I opened the door it entered the room
without any fear as if she has been so familiar with me. She drank
some milk. But then surprisingly it followed my footsteps wherever I
moved and started biting my toes. I was angry and tried my level best
to get rid of the cat somehow. All my efforts were in vain
and the kitten didn’t leave the place then.
After a few days I
found the kitten was not that ugly. On the other hand she’s the
most beautiful kitten we ever had. A white kitten with pale orange tail. And I named her Sundari. I noted
something unique. The kitten possessed peculiarly long, beautiful
tail. And the tail had a slight bend at the end without which it
would have been even longer. Its fur was also unusually thick and
lengthy. We’ve domesticated several cats and Sundari was one of the
most lovable cats we ever got.
